When my son came back home from school on his last day before half term he mentioned that his school homework topic is 'FIFA 2018 World Cup'. That is how he woke up in my mind sentimental memories of summer holidays when I was a child like him ;-).
I thought because we had more time than usual we can build something together. The idea was to build our own mini football table game. We named it 'Goooal!' :-). But don't think it was a quick project. We spent many hours to build our game because we decided that we going to use some unusual, 'unuseful' things many people call...rubbish. Thanks to my 'collector passion' ;-) we had enough useful material.
In our project we used scrap wood which had to be cutted and sanded, barbecue skewers, wooden ice cream sticks, we used almost 70 and yes... we ate all of these ice creams :-)...and even more ;-). We used lots of wooden coffee/tea stirrers manually cutted to proper lengths to build the floor and underneath frame, jute twine and jute netting. And ball is, original LEGO soccer ball.
We had lots of work with this project and by the end we have lots of fun :-).
Our football table has been designed for right handed players, sorry left handed you need to find other game ;-). No screws, nails or plastic were used in this project except the ball. I like the noise of the ball moving through wooden floor and smashing wooden barriers, believe me it is different than in the 'plastic-fantastic' version ;-). The players and all the table around were painted with chalk paints and protected with clear wax.
So, what we have learned while building our project?
We learned how to drill, still the drill is very heavy in my son 'big' small hands ;-).We learned how to use clamps, how to glue wood. We done lots of manual, handmade work which was very time consuming to get better results. But the most important thing, we learned that we can build something using simple things which we saved before being thrown away :-).
